Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, has described the All Progressive Congress ( APC) Presidential Campaign rally held in Ado-Ekiti last Saturday as a comedy of failure.
The governor also said the APC has been proved wrong by lies that he had scheduled a rally for last Saturday to disrupt their presidential rally and possibly to retaliate attacks on the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina and Bauchi states.
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, the governor noted that the APC had only come for a show off that did not make any impact.
Fayose said despite crying wolf when there was none and despite provocative statements by the APC leaders at the rally, the PDP members refused to be drawn to violence.
He accused the APC of raising needless fear because the party knows it would not win any single seat in the coming elections in the state.
“Before their grandpa came to hold his rally, during which they imported supporters from Osun, Ondo and even Lagos states, they had gone to town with a lot of lies. They said we were planning to hold a rally in Fajuyi Park to disrupt their own. Definitely, that was false.
“Their rally is a comedy of failure because the real North’s candidate is yet to emerge. Also, they went as far as allowing miscreants from Osun to parade the venue in their uniform because the so-called leaders of APC in the state have been rejected by the people and are ashamed o show their faces.
“The people of Nigeria know that it is the APC that is not tolerant. They asked for a venue for their rally. We did not hesitate to grant that. Remember that when they
were in government last year, we were almost frustrated from holding our rally at the stadium despite the fact that the President was coming.
“Now, in Rivers State, when one of their main financiers is the governor, they have refused our party the use of
the stadium. The more the APC lies as a party, the more their fortunes decline. People know them as cheap blackmailers and propagandists,”he said.
The governor assured the people of the state that peace would reign before, during and after next month’s general elections.
He added that the campaign of calumny by the APC would always fail, urging the people of the state to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the elections.
